Your LinkedIn “About” section is one of the most underused—but highest-impact—parts of your profile.

It’s your chance to:

  • Control your narrative
  • Communicate your unique value
  • Connect emotionally with your audience

But too often, it’s either missing, a dense block of text, or a copy/paste from a resume.

Let’s change that.

Why the “About” Section Matters

It’s the first thing people read when they’re genuinely curious about who you are.
It’s your opportunity to build trust, differentiate, and get people to keep scrolling.

Great “About” sections do three things:

  1. Tell a compelling story
  2. Highlight achievements
  3. Speak to future goals or opportunities

A Simple 3-Part Framework

Use this structure to write an About section that stands out:

🔹 PART 1: WHO YOU ARE & WHAT YOU DO

Start strong.

Examples:

  • “I’m a healthcare strategist passionate about improving patient access through technology and education.”
  • “A data-driven finance leader with 15+ years helping organizations improve margins and decision-making.”

Keep it crisp, confident, and human.

🔹 PART 2: KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

Add accomplishments. Make them measurable where possible.

Examples:

  • “Led the launch of a new patient support program adopted by 250+ clinics in its first 6 months.”
  • “Reduced operational costs by 18% through targeted automation and vendor renegotiations.”

Use bullet points if it improves clarity.

🔹 PART 3: WHAT’S NEXT / WHAT YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT

Show ambition and direction.

Examples:

  • “I’m energized by the intersection of tech and healthcare, and always open to conversations about how to scale impact.”
  • “My focus now is on applying strategic finance to drive innovation in growing biotech organizations.”

Writing Tips

✔️ Write in the first person (e.g., “I help…”)
✔️ Keep it under 2,600 characters
✔️ Use white space for readability

Avoid:
🚫 Jargon and filler (e.g., “results-oriented professional with a proven track record…”)
🚫 Buzzwords with no substance
🚫 Overly formal tone

A Real Example (Before & After)

BEFORE:
“Experienced operations leader with a history of working in healthcare. Skilled in project management, vendor management, and compliance.”

AFTER:
“I’m a healthcare operations leader focused on simplifying complexity. Over the past 10 years, I’ve led system-wide process improvements that reduced admin time by 40%, improved patient satisfaction, and aligned with compliance standards.
Currently, I’m focused on leveraging digital tools and AI to drive next-gen efficiency in health systems.”

Final Thoughts:

Your “About” section isn’t just about you—it’s about showing the value you bring.

✅ Make it clear
✅ Make it human
✅ Make it strategic

Because the right profile doesn’t just show where you’ve been. It attracts where you’re going next.
